The
internet phenomenon is without precedent
It
offers potentially enormous rewards for those prepared to advertise
in 'cyberspace'
There
must be few business executives who, in this new decade, have
not heard any hype about "the Internet" or "the World Wide Web",
or perhaps noticed the rapid infiltration of the intriguing

web addresses and shaken their head when asked for their e-mail
address, but, amazingly, many have still not grasped the potential
of the Internet.
The
Internet is with us whether we like it or not. Traffic on
the Internet doubles every 100 days. Just as the railways and
then telephones facilitated commerce and communication, the Internet
has accelerated this process. This has led to an even sharper
acceleration in the fortunes of companies which have turned the
potential of internet commerce into a reality (microsoft and intel...)
The
Internet Revolution is still considered to be in its infancy.
By 2002, it is estimated that transactions worth over $300 billion*
will be undertaken between businesses alone. This potential has
placed e-commerce on every board room agenda.
In
the US and Canada, who lead the way, 7.4 million people had
bought a product on the internet by mid-1997. By the end of 1997
the figure had reached 10 million.
Products
being sold include holidays, computers, books and music, holidays
villas, property, clothes, shoes, cameras, luxury cars, gifts,
cards, flowers, fine wines - the potential is unlimitless.
Plus,
the internet can go further than traditional media. Last winter
some ski resorts fixed up permanent cameras attached to the Internet.
Skiers could visit the site and see the skiing conditions with
their own eyes any time day or night. The possibilities are endless.
It
took 38 years before 50 million people used a radio; for television,
it took 13 years to reach 50 million.
For the Internet it has taken less than 4*
In
June 1997, 7.4 million people had made a purchase via the
web. By the end of the same year, the figure was over 10 million
- up 35% in just 6 months*
Consider
a retail business with $150 million in annual sales and consider
the number of shops, outlets and storage facilities that would
take. . . . .
- Amazon.com have reached $150 million in just 3 years, using
only a website and a warehouse*
If
you can begin to see the enormous potential of the World Wide
Web, and believe in world-wide communications, and, that many
products sold in the high street today could be sold more conveniently
through your television screen, (the Internet will be available
through most people's television sets within a very short space
of time!), perhaps you should consider the Internet as another
advertising medium for your business.
A
presence on the World Wide Web can increase your company profile,
make you available 24 hours a day and display information about
your company and the services it offers.
